We start with the floor underneath, not the tile

Most bathroom tile failures are not tile failures. They are movement. An older Jersey home sitting on a wood subfloor flexes, and tile does not flex with it. So before anything gets set we check deflection, add an uncoupling membrane where it is needed, and make sure the surface is flat. Tile laid over a floor that moves will crack, and no grout color fixes that.

Layout is decided before the first tile is cut

We dry-lay the field and find the center before mixing thinset. That way full tiles land where the eye goes, and the slivers end up behind the toilet instead of across the doorway. It takes an extra hour and it is the difference between a bathroom that looks installed and one that looks designed.

What it costs

Across New Jersey most tile work runs roughly eight to ten dollars a square foot with mid-grade tile included. Removing old tile adds about a dollar fifty to four fifty a square foot depending on what is under it. Large format, marble, herringbone and anything with more cuts costs more because it takes longer. We quote flat and in writing before we start.
